Event: Exhibition: Isle

Arter will host Ali Mahmut Demirel's first solo exhibition in Istanbul from 16 March to 15 July 2018. Since 2015, the Berlin-based artist has been working on a series of videos in which he observes abandoned architectural structures in different locations around the world to fantasise about a post-apocalyptic future with no human survivor.

Can Aytekin's solo exhibition "Empty House" will be on view at Arter between March 16 – July 15, 2018. The exhibition, which takes its name from Aytekin's new series "Empty House", will also include a selection of the artist's preceeding series, "Temple Paintings", "Rock Paintings", "Garden Paintings", "Everything is in its Proper Place" and "Inverse".

Event: Istanbul’s Seaside Leisure

Curated by Zafer Toprak, the Istanbul’s Seaside Leisure exhibition brings together photographs, magazines, comics, objects, and books from various private and institutional collections, and tells a nostalgic story while also addressing the change and socialization of the norms of how Istanbulites used their free time. Istanbul’s Seaside Leisure is a documentary testament of the radical transformations in the Republic’s lifestyle.

Event: SALT Beyoglu - Continuity Error

The first major survey of Aydan Murtezaoğlu and Bülent Şangar, prominent figures in shaping the emerging contemporary art scene in 1990s' Turkey, is presented at SALT Beyoğlu. The exhibition is titled after the term for narrative inconsistencies in cinema and literature, which serves as a metaphor for the convergence of Murtezaoğlu and Şangar's individual practices around collaborative works and the hiatus in their exhibition histories.

Event: Anthony Cragg's "Human Nature" at Istanbul Modern

Istanbul Modern’s temporary space opens with an exhibition of the works of Anthony Cragg, one of the most original and innovative artists in contemporary sculpture today. A press conference was held on the occasion of the exhibition “Human Nature”, at which the artist was also present. Sponsored by Ferko, a firm noted for its support of culture and the arts, the exhibition was made possible by the contributions of the British Consulate General in Istanbul and the British Council.

Curated by Istanbul Modern Director General Levent Çalıkoğlu, “Human Nature” integrates Cragg’s experiments in sculpture into a comprehensive and chronological whole.

Event: 25th Istanbul Jazz Festival

The most admirable names of jazz, funk, world music, blues and rock meet the festival audience between 26 June and 17 July with the Istanbul Jazz Festival on its 25th edition. The concerts take place at the most iconic venues of the city along the Bosphorus that couples exceptional sights with the festival joy such as Beykoz Kundura, Sakıp Sabancı Museum, Esma Sultan Mansion, as well as better-known concert halls. One of the hallmarks of the festival, a single-night music marathon “Night Out”, on its 4th edition, will give the stages on the Asian side of the Bosphorus to the most promising independent artists of the local scene in 9 different venues.
